Beautiful Hanging Baskets

Beautiful Hanging Baskets

Many hanging baskets are just beginning to look at their very best - although it's not too late to plant your own up now if you still want to. They come in a variety of shapes and sizes from traditional wire baskets lined with moss to wicker horns and terracotta spheres - there seems to be almost as much choice as there are plants to put in them!

You may want to stick with traditional Fuchsias, Geraniums and trailing Lobelia but before you decide take a look at some of our more unusual plants, which we have in abundance!

To create a real wow factor mix traditional Pelargoniums with their rich intense burgundy flowers with training Geraniums, trailing variegated Nepeta and rosé coloured Brachycombe, adding plenty of volume to the basket. Or you could choose something simpler, perhaps of white flowers, mixed with Dichondra ‘Silver Falls’ with its' mercury coloured leaves that can hang down almost 4ft.

Of course the secret to a good basket is the soil and feeding. Make sure you use specific hanging basket compost which retain moisture for longer and are specifically formulated. Three or four weeks after planting you will need to start feeding your hanging basket to help achieve that full colourful effect, again there are a wealth to choose from but easiest to use are those which you dilute with water.
