
Prunus ‘Kojo-no-mai’
This compact slow growing deciduous flowering cherry native to Japan flowers on bare branches from early March; the buds are light red opening to pale pinkie-white flowers about 1.5cm across, as the well as the spring interest the green summer foliage turns a vibrant orange and flaming red in autumn before falling with the frosts then in the winter its zigzag stems are very ornamental giving it interest throughout the year. ‘Kojo-no-mai’ will grow in any reasonable garden soil including chalk in full sun or light shade and require little or no maintenance when established.
